June 19, 1865 commemorates the day that the last enslaved peoples were freed in Galveston, Texas almost two and a half years after the emancipation of slavery. Juneteenth is a celebration of Black life, freedom, and liberation. Juneteenth must be added to all calendars as an official town holiday as well as a public school holiday.
